e-Shram Card/ Yojana was launched by the Indian government to offer social security to workers in unorganised sectors. Additionally, the e-Shram portal was introduced by the government for workers in unorganized sectors. The e-Shram portal’s goal is to compile a database of unorganized workers so that they can take advantage of several government programs.
e-Shram card or Shramik card can be applied for by anyone employed in the unorganized sector. Through the e-Shram card, workers in the unorganised sector can get a number of advantages, including a pension after 60 years, life insurance, financial assistance in the event of disability, a UAN number, and more.
Unorganised Sector
Units or establishments that produce or sell products and services and employ fewer than ten people are considered to be in the unorganized sector. The EPFO and ESIC Acts shouldn’t apply to these units. Those who are employed by unorganized sector enterprises are eligible to apply for e-shram cards.
Benifits
- Upon reaching 60 years old, a monthly pension of Rs. 3,000.
- Two million rupees in death insurance and one million rupees in financial assistance in the event that a worker has a partial disability.
- All benefits will be awarded to the spouse in the event of a beneficiary’s (an unorganized sector worker with an e-Shram card) untimely death.
- The 12-digit UAN number that beneficiaries obtain is valid across India.
Eligibity
- Any individual engaged in the unorganized sector of work or labor force.
- The ideal age range for employees is 16–59.
- The Aadhaar card and a working cellphone number are required for employees.
- Payroll taxes shouldn’t be paid by employees.
Registration: How to Apply Online?
The e-Shram portal or the CSC (Common Service Center) are the places to apply for the e-Shram card. The qualified individuals can apply for the e-Shram card in person at the closest CSC center. By inputting the state and district while requesting an e-Shram card, they can find the closest CSC center on the e-Shram Portal.
Step 1: Visit the e-Shram portal (Self-registration page).
Step 2: Enter the Aadhaar linked mobile number and the captcha code and click on the ‘Send OTP’ button.
Step 3: Enter your Aadhaar number, tick the terms and conditions and enter the OTP sent to the mobile number. Click on the ‘Validate’ button.
Step 4: Confirm the personal details that appear on the screen.
Step 5: Enter the required details, such as address, educational qualifications, etc.
Step 6: Select the skill name, nature of business and the type of work.
Step 7: Enter the bank details and select the self-declaration.
Step 8: Click on the ‘Preview’ option to verify the details entered and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 9: An OTP will be sent to the mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on the ‘Verify’ button.
Step 10: The e-Shram card is generated and displayed on the screen.

How to Download e-Shram Card?
- Go to the portal for e-Shram.
- Choose the “Update Profile Using UAN” option after clicking the “Already Registered” link.
- After inputting the captcha code, date of birth, and UAN number, click “Generate OTP.”
- Click “Validate” after entering the OTP you received on your mobile device.
- Verify the personal information that displays.
- After making sure all the information is correct, select “Preview” and then “Submit.”
- The cellphone number will receive an OTP. After entering the OTP, select “Verify.”
- After generation, the e-Shram card appears on the screen.
- By selecting the download option, you may also download the e-Shram card.
How to Check Payment Status and Balance
- Visit the e-Shram portal.
- Click on the ‘E-Aadhaar Card Beneficiary Status Check’ link.
- Enter the e-Shram card number, UAN number, or Aadhar Card.
- Click the ‘Submit’ button.
- Review the e-Shram payment status displayed on the page.
